Classical Studies

The League includes teachers of Latin, Greek, and Classics on elementary, secondary, and college levels. The League celebrated its 75th anniversary in 1994. We are working together to help each other. Founded in 1919 for the purpose of fostering the study of classical languages in the United States and Canada. Membership is open to anyone committed to the preservation and advancement of the heritage of Greece and Rome.

Principal learned society in North America for the study of ancient Greek and Roman languages, literatures, and civilizations, founded in 1869. Awards, directory of members, lecture and conference information, classical studies education and professional resources, and links. While the majority of its members are university and college Classics teachers, members also include scholars in other disciplines, primary and secondary school teachers, and interested lay people.

Membership of the Society is open to all present and past members of university staffs, mainly in Australia and New Zealand, who are or have been engaged in teaching or research in the languages, literature, history, thought and archaeology of the ancient world, and to other interested persons. The Society aims at the advancement of the study of ancient Greece and Rome and related fields.

The largest classical organisation in Great Britain with a worldwide membership, and unites the interests of all who value the study of the languages, literature and civilisation of ancient Greece and Rome. Unites residents of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and the District of Columbia who are students, teachers, and devotees of Greco-Roman languages, literature and culture. All members receive the association's journal, Classical World, which publishes articles and reviews for “the scholarly teacher and the teaching scholar.”

CAES is a not-for-profit professional organization of teachers and professors of ancient Latin and Greek, which seeks to advance interest in, and the study of the classical languages and civilizations in the schools and colleges of New York State.
